Do suicidal thoughts ever subside?

There are moments when you forget them. Like temporarily. For example, I was so into my video games that I forgot about cutting my wrists. I feel like drinking would make it worse but that's different for everyone. Just sleep on it if it gets too bad.

Yes, in a way.
They might subside for days, weeks, months, years, or sometimes decades, depending on each individual's particular circumstances and the reasons they became suicidal in the first place.
But they never completely go away, they sort of lay dormant within the brain, like a virus that manifests itself every now and then if the immune system is weak for whatever reason.

The horrors of this world never all go away, so my wanting to leave it probably never will either.

Depending on the type and level. Softer suicidality that doesn't question life can go away but when life is exposed, there is no reverse.
