I'm just wondering around if I have anything to look forward to or not. I know some people do recover, and some people get worse. Like, the majority of chronically suicidal people though, can they expect to recover at some point? If they stick it out? Not just appear recovered to others but see a real significant internal improvement? Accepting occasional bouts of being suicidal, just not chronically suicidal on the regular to the point of it more generally effecting someone's life. Not asking about any specific method of recovery, but do those who seriously seek recovery for long enough for the most part find it or no?

I'll speak for myself on this, but if I put in effort to recover, I can do it. I didn't use to be suicidal the way I've been lately. I joined an IOP program last year, and it did help somewhat. I started on medication, but I have yet to increase it. I have a therapist I see biweekly. Does that cure me? Nope. I wish it did. I think I'll always have suicidal ideation, but I want to deal with it better than just automatically making plans to CTB when something goes wrong. I have hopes and dreams I want to achieve, so I'm doing my best to recover. It'll be a slow process, but I think it's worth a try. I will CTB when my parents pass away, but I hope it doesn't happen anytime soon. I just want to give life one last try before ending it all.

I don't know. Personally, I feel like my previous recoveries were Band-Aids on something fundamentally broken and my mental illness persisted throughout. Specifically my suicidal mental illness. Deep down there is a sense that I already blew it and want to give up and this stops all my actions short. I would do x, if I were younger and still innocent. As I am, it's hopeless.

I was able to the most part. I still have serious depression and bouts of suicidal thoughts but it's no longer a constant crave. I don't really see my life as something too valuable but still as something to give a try.

I've somewhat recovered, but I'm not sure how helpful my answer is b/c I've never been able to figure out why I had them or why they (somewhat) disappeared. My suicidal thoughts never had any particular cause, and I think because of that they mostly stopped without a cause. I used to be chronically suicidal, 2022-2024 was the worst of it. Really the only things that I think may have helped me recover was drifting from my closer friends and being by myself more. Now, I only revert back to suicidal thoughts as a coping mechanism when things get stressful.

If my life gets worse, I'll probably CTB once my parents pass, since even if not suicidal, I'm just not attatched to being alive. Even now, if I was given an instant painless death button, I'd press it to get it done with. But I'm not actively planning like I used to be and I'm not miserable.

Statistically yes, the majority of suicidal people do recover. Not in the sense that suicide never again crosses their mind, but in the sense that the acute pain that drives them towards it becomes manageable, negligible, and it is no longer a serious option to consider in their day-to-day.

Most people do recover, hence why people hate this forum and by extent us. I do admit there's going to be a bit of survivor's bias cause some of the people who don't die early.

But if there was a significant number of people who don't end up recovering and suicide either way after years or trying to stay suicidal forever. I think people would be more understanding.
