my therapist and i agree i have general anxiety disorder. she said i fits bipolar personality but is hesitant on diagnosing bc it might just be depression. generally have a hard time being happy as compared to other people, to my knowledge. didn't know antidepressants were this cheap but i think my depressive episodes may be a result of brain chemicals being fucked.

are antidepressants good? do they actually work? feeling like shit and if i have to keep living like this im going to kill myself during one of my episodes.

There is zero black and white answers as too whether they work, to be frank.

The best results have been combination of antidepressants and therapy.

They help some people and do not help others, so if they are an option for you then in my opinion just discuss pros and cons and risks with your doctor and they
should be able to help you make decision.

Also keep in mind that given nature of sasu most respondents will not have "fixed" their issues so will not have found things that have worked for them.

My only warning would be to keep whatever support network you have around you if or when you start taking them so you have people that you can update against any initial side effects.

it really is a hit or miss with medicine, because everyone reacts differently. i think i have been put on at least eight different medications, not many of them have helped me long term

though with bipolar, antidepressants can trigger mania unless paired with antipsychotics/mood stabilizers. again, depends solely on the person

the side effects are a big thing, that and the "these will take a few weeks to become effective" speech

there are always risks associated but it's worth a try, you may end up with something that works for you. wishing you luck with this

everyone is different. i know lots of people that didnt have any help with antidepressants, but me personally it helped a lot. i noticed i felt a lot calmer and got less overwhelmed, and when i had to stop taking them i went right back to my usual anxiety and depression lol

I've tried desvenlafaxine and while it helps a bit, it's just not enough. I still don't feel like a person and I have been considering suicide (obviously). But it's better than nothing, and I do recommend antidepressants. Just gotta find the stack that works for you. I'm trying an ssri next.

I personally found them a little helpful. I was prescribed an SSRI for anxiety. The worst side effect I got was a weird loss of appetite for the first few weeks, nothing bad. I just drank a bunch of smoothies until it was gone. It's different for everyone, though. I think it's worth it if you think it could help.

It depends on the person. The SSRIs have never worked for me, I had an SNRI work but it just completely flattened out my mood and then when I wanted to come off of it is when I found out it's one of the worst medications to wean off of. Right now I'm trying out a mood stabilizer since my depression is so bad.

They don't fix anything. Look it up, nothing is a symptom of a chemical imbalance, it's scientifically proven that it's not. So it's pseudo science. Look up some meta analysis of these ssris etc, they look at all the studies they do to get them onto the market. These companies just need one ok result, so they sometimes do 5 studies, only one shows anything over placebo and they use that to be able to sell it. It's such stupid scam.

And for me depression was never anything illogical, I got reasons and logic for it, so no ammount of drugs could change that logic, unless they make you completely unable to think. I could be high on meth and could still give you the same logic.

The only tablets that ever helped me achieve anything close to a quality of life were pregablin and diazepam, the gps stopped supplying me with either years ago. I've had some terrible experiences with medications, venlafaxine was the worst I've had, the side effects were horrible.

SSRIs completely and permanently devastate the sexual function of a significant number of users, sometimes after just one dose.

I would count that as positive effect, it just annoys me, cause I'm alone anyways.
Sadly it didn't do that for me, though I just tried them for a short time.

It really depends on the medication and your diagnosis as well as how your neurology responds.

If you have undiagnosed bipolar disorder, then the antidepressants could have the side-effect of making you hypomanic.

Celexa and Prozac both made me manic as fuck, but Effexor + Buspar seemed to be more mild for me.

You don't need antidepressants. You need bipolar medication.
