I have considered this many times before, but I decided to finally delete my account. I guess I have been a member here for a while, so I should make a post about it. I am becoming increasingly concerned about authoritarian policing in my country, especially with recent events, and I fear that I may be targeted in the future, even though I haven't done anything wrong. I don't think I have said anything wrong or illegal on the site, but I don't want anyone to go back to posts from years ago and misinterpret them. That's why I've decided to delete my account, for the benefit of anyone who wants to know. I suppose that no one will really care anyway about me leaving, so I think I will not be upsetting anyone. But I have gotten immense value out of the site, so I'm sad to be leaving. However, I have learnt ways to take care of myself without using the site for comfort. I ask that the moderators clear my IP address and email address, for my safety. I thank the people running the site for their efforts, and hope it can continue running forever.
I will share a list of my favourite quotes from members on the site:
"Life is a trap. Once born we're tied to obligations that keep us here"
"Money is made-up points; that we could allocate however we please. Yet people regularly die from not getting enough"
"After all death is the most natural thing ever"
"Traumatic childhood offers only 2 ways out – becoming a narcissist or becoming an empath."
"my life has become a day shorter. this is the only good thing that happened to me today"
"The problem with laws being open to interpretation, is that they are dependent on interpretation."
"If people love life so much then they should just go and enjoy it rather than being so insensitive."
"Life is weird and nobody knows the actual answers, those who claim they do are the dumbest among us."
"wishes do nothing. action do"
"I think there's a societal norm that a majority of people believe that everyone should think the same, and it should be like them."
"Do you get locked up and tortured (legally) for throwing out or attempting to throw out stuff that has been gifted to you normally?"
"It is sadistic to force others to live, masochistic to want everyone to die."
"a very simple formula for winning in politics. (1) create an evil "boogyman"; (2) tell people why that boogyman is evil; (3) broadly and without details or evidence tell people that the boogyman is to blame for all their life's woes; and (4) tell people that he's the only one who can save them from the boogyman."
"I've also seen people say that death is neutral but, for that to be the case, a positive state must be better than death since, after all, a positive number like 5 is greater than a neutral number like 0. However, a positive event isn't greater than death for the individual as, once again, the individual who dies has no need for the positive event."
"There is always a reason these young people want to die, and no one cares until they go through with it"
"I leave silently through the back door of the theater of life, and ... close the door to hell, the one who is the last to leave."
"Yeah I have friends:
F: fucking backstabbers
R: randomly ghosts me for no reason
I: I try to no think about them
E: Endless torment from them
N: No fucks given about my well being
D: do not know who to trust anymore
S: suffering"
"[Sarcasm] You don't have what you want? Maybe you just don't really want it. After all, we always get what we want."
"Even those who realize the scam keep playing, convinced they can find an escape, a meaning, a reason. But there is no way out. The universe is a closed system, a vicious cycle where suffering is the very fuel of life."
"even death is an illusion—it's just the end of the game for the individual, but the game itself continues, regenerating, feeding on new births, new illusions, new slaves to take our place."
"Attractive people are more confident because they're treated better. Ugly people have no confidence because they're treated poorly."
"We cannot tear out a single page of our life, but we can throw the whole book in the fire."
