Death brings out peoples true colours

My relative died last week( she was alcoholic) suddenly and my family are involved in the process of going to the United States for the funeral. Death really brings out peoples true colours because we finally see people exposed for who they really are as people.

All of sudden these relatives who never gave a sh*t about my family now remember us and keep asking for stuff and all kinds of help or something. Yesterday a relative who has not spoken to my grandmother in many years today for the first time phoned my house and asked my grandmother for help.

My toxic self centred relatives keep phoning my house since my relative died, it is so pathetic. I want to get a scissors and cut the all phone lines in my house. They are not ashamed of themselves.

I'm sorry for the loss of your relative and that your family is now showing their true colors in a way that hurts you and those you're closer to in your family. No one should have to deal with a toxic family or anyone who takes advantage of someone else's goodwill. I wish you the best in dealing with that.

On a side note I'm not sure if you watch anime but some of what I read of your posts and this one remind me of an anime character - Kaneki from Tokyo Ghoul, and his mother.

There are a few windows into the truth of people's otherwise hidden selfishness and toxicity. Death is definitely one of them. I don't expect an answer, just wondering WHY extended family would be calling your family, I assume your family lost a member... why would they call you to help them? When you lose a family member, extended family should be calling to offer THEIR help not the other way around.

I get your point - they are toxic. No need to explain.

Some people can be very selfish and they only care about what directly affects themselves. That is just the way a lot of people are. It is understandable wanting nothing to do with people like that, it must be very unpleasant having to deal with them. I wish you the best.

My relatives are like this. The possessions seemed more of value.than the person who died. I recall,conversations being held at my father's funeral. every other conversation.was about inheritance. Ive disowned my family. Ive made a will leaving almost everything to animal's. No doubt the family will spit on my grave.

I am so sorry. It is so NOT fair that we have to spend time or tolerate toxic relatives all because we share some DNA. It is f*cking bullsh*t when you think of it.

In times like this I get my cup of hemp tea and carry on.

I admit this had been a very interesting learning curve in my life. In difficult times we really see people for who they really are, it is so fascinating to observe.

-In one week i learnt the man my relative was meant to be marrying this year turned out to be a piece of sh*t the entire time. The man wants my relative to be buried as soon as possible and is so mad the local christian church my relative attended have a later date available for a funeral. My relatives mother has no problem with the late provided which is the end of the month.
Before my relative died I always said the man was piece of sh*t and it looks like I was correct in my assessment.

I find all this choas fascinating because its interesting seeing people's real characters be exposed in full view. The beautiful thing when someone dies is I can be honest about my real feelings and my family think I am grieving like them.

In fact I am mad as hell. I think of the times when my dead relative made my mothers life complete hell. Before she died all she ever did was make people's lives complete hell in the family. If my relative didn't have young children her death wouldn't have been as tragic. I feel sorry for her young kids she left behind. If she didn't have children I would be relieved she died because she just brought problems to people's lives and was in conflict.
