I don't know how it is considered where I live, I have never thought about it. I suppose it could be seen as taboo, too. It's even hard to become an apprentice.
No one's dream job is to be a thanatologist. Working with the dead is considered weird in itself, I guess.
But I get the idea of getting to be alone most of the time. That's also why I considered being one at some point.

Honestly, people are so unreasonable. What do they mean they don't want to have to clean decaying anuses for a living?

Your job will be nice and quiet with no one bothering you — now, if the corpse moved, I'd have a heart attack, lol.

Yeah, really, isn't it a dream job?

I suspect she is only using that job as an excuse for her to bite people 😬

@boddibo have you tried different ones?

Yes, I love the aesthetic, as well. Sitting in a cold laboratory with a cadaver... Very grimly romantic (in the literary sense).

Corpses do twitch fairly regularly, especially if they haven't reached the advanced stages of putrefaction; plus, I'll be massaging them quite a lot in order to ensure an even distribution of embalming fluid, and that might trigger a muscle reflex or two.
A fun fact: Immolation used to be a popular method to dispose of bodies in old times. Some of the bodies would reflexively stand up from being set on fire; that's where a lot of the myths of undead ghouls and demon possession came from, and why fire became associated with spiritual cleansing overtime.

I found the information really interesting. It seems like a job that requires extreme care and subtlety — far more than I imagined.

Well, seeing as I consider myself a walking corpse in my own right, and I've actually already died once before but been resuscitated, it's only fitting that I tend to other corpses.

I'm not a vampire. The voices agree with me, too.
Also, being dead was kinda lame... I didn't even get to experience it. I saw some faint lights and colors flash in the infinite void, and then I immediately snapped forwards in time to EMTs tending to me at my bedside. Felt like I time travelled; one moment on the floor, the very next not. I guess that happens when your consciousness is disrupted.

Malkavians hear voices too, vampire.

Yeah, it's one of the most common experience when close to death...

Good day, Oncey. I always enjoy your classy style of greeting.

And yes, necrotalk.
Did you guys know that decomposing bodies are heavy in putrescine and cadaverine, and release quite a few ammoniacal gasses? The blood also degrades into methane and hydrogen sulfide.
It is very difficult to get these scents off of your body. Regular water and shampoo won't work. If you ever need a home-accessible way to get the smell of death off of your person, or stubborn blood patches, douse a cloth or towel in vinegar and pat yourself down with it. Massage it in well and then you can shower normally after 20-30 minutes.

You know... Just a tip. Some innocent and fun trivia to bring up at the family dinner.

I will try to make better use of my time on the internet by limiting the amount of time I spend on here when I am off work,
so I guess I'll try lots of apps and see which one does it for me....
