I have just failed a partial hanging attempt three times in a row by aborting before blacking out. I never actually blacked out, but my vision and hearing were fading, and my limbs started to tingle and lose feeling. I have made several partial hanging attempts in the past few months similar to this, but I was never as close to blacking out as I was this time. After the last of the three attempts, I felt really tired and jittery after I removed the noose, and now I'm worried that I damaged my brain somehow. Does it sound like brain damage has occurred? I know that any hanging is very risky. I'm worried that if I get checked out, that I may be committed to the psych ward. I just can't tell if I feel weird due to the adrenaline/SI from almost dying, anxiety from my OCD thinking I have brain damage, or actual brain damage.

You don't have brain damage I promise you. Certainly not any that could be seen on any test and that would impact you in any noticeable way. I've done partial until I blacked out and my body was flailing and I did it because I already have cognitive issues from illnesss. It did nothing to my brain when I came around. It's not something that's going to be goos for your brain but it's highly resilient and you didn't even pass out. Think of all the people who faintiled in their lives. All the people who lost concioisness in various accidents and were perfectly fine afterwards. People who drowned but were bought back to life and are totally okay. Honestly you are okay too. You will do more damage to your brain if you get drunk or bang your head.

No way, you don't get brain damage unless you passed out and had no oxygen to the brain for quite some time. You didn't pass out so you're easily in the clear.

i failed partial where i passed out at least 5 times for unknown lengths of time in a row. i know i was unconscious enough to thrash around and knock over a door that was propped up against the wall near me, and another point was out long enough with enough pressure against my head to wake up with a severe bloody nose. the last time i woke up i couldn't feel my legs for about a half hour. this was several years ago and i am without brain damage, other than i developed mild tics that still haven't gone away. other than that i was fine. so if you didn't even lose consciousness i think you're okay

Thanks everyone. I'll definitely keep an eye out for any symptoms, but I feel a little better now knowing that I'm probably ok. I think I just need to recover since I'm still shaken up from the attempt.
