I am a Christmas avoider. But Christmas commercialism is already in full swing in the shops. Can't stand it!

I get this. Not the case with Christmas for me but I do feel like this about other things.

I'm glad you love Christmas. I just wish it didn't start in the shops in August! I can choose whether I want to celebrate Christmas at home but can't avoid it in the shops when I have to buy food.

So there are more suicides on New Year than Christmas?

Oh hell yes I hear ya.
Christmas as a kid and with my family was a big deal. A great time.
Not anymore. I seriously have a real Christmas phobia. Plus PTSD. Plus my acute depression hits so hard I can barely keep awake. I just wanna sleep all the time.

In my early 30s I had to travel during Christmas. Alcoholic. I had a nightmare journey. There was ice and snow blocking air and rail travel.

I was arrested by police after a flight. A lot of money spent. Alcohol withdrawal. A nice Christmas day (just) but I was so fucked for days and days... Drinking.

I went into a delirious psychotic state travelling just before the New Year. It was icy. I tried to visit an ex partner. It was nightmare fuel. I wanted to sign in to a psych ward.

The past decade the fear of Christmas gets worse. Now it is here again. I kinda liked Autumn and Winter but the dread and lethargy is so overwhelming.

I will ctb before December. I do not plan on seeing 2022.

The naked consumerism of the Christmas season has always bothered me. I used to try to enjoy it for the familial gatherings but that was ruined by the fact that my family really valued the gift giving aspect and also we're all pretty fucked up. Not a great combo, I feel the Christmas hate.

Eh I like Christmas. It's always nice getting to see my siblings be super happy about whatever's under the tree. I feel bad this year though because I usually buy stuff for everyone but after having my breakdown a few months ago I'm broke so oh well.

Weirdly my dad loved it. My father was not a guy to show emotion or hug much. But he made a real effort at Christmas. My family were not at all religious. Just my father really loved it. For us. For our love and anticipation of the presents. Putting the tree and decorations up was a big deal. I can still smell that from home.

I say it was weird my dad embracing it as he hated all the other celebratory holidays/events. Fathers and mothers day were just made for people to buy cards and flowers. It was fake. He hated all that kinda stuff.

But he loved Christmas.

Whatever the case..
Christmas lost any real appeal for me as I got into my teenage years and beyond. Realising it's just one big festival to sell loads of unnecessary plastic shit to pollute the planet even more.

Lmao the week before Halloween I went round some home & garden centres looking for some spooky melancholic decor because its that time of year init but NOPE the whole thing was just christmas everywhere like halloween hadnt even been and gone yet and they'd already replaced 99% of the spooky stuff with bloody baubles

Yea not a fan of Christmas - the blatant consumerism, the reminder that you've lived another fruitless year, the crushing loneliness or the tedium of spending time with family you're not that fond of, the road rage of people rushing around the shops and trying to find a park (people are sooo aggressive!), the stress, panic, pressure of trying to prepare and pretend to everyone that you're ok. The awful christmas music and movie. Bleh.
