I felt exactly the same. Called the Samaritans once and had to hang up! Pointless xOh, this is so tragic.... Why I'll never call a hotline or text one. They lie and say it's confidential but it's not...
It's been years since I've heard anything about childline tbh xI actually didn't think childline existed anymore x
It's not a matter of blame game. If children think for a second that they are at risk of their parents (who may be abusive) finding out that they have reached out to a helpline, they wont bother. It's silly blaming childline. Sells papers, sure, but is silly. I wish people would quit this compulsion to find "blame" for suicide. It's fucking pathetic using someone's death as a headline grabber with the token victim, token perpetrator etc. No one kills themselves because of one easily digestible reason.
The Dm doesn't give a fuck about that girl.
Absolutely agree. If it's main reason to call is through the confidentiality then it has failed. With the police turning up at the door and a coroner recording these facts legally, it's not just a headline grabber, it is fact! It's not a matter of blame game. If children think for a second that they are at risk of their parents (who may be abusive) finding out that they have reached out to a helpline, they wont bother.
If they are secure in the fact its 100percent confidential, well maybe then children will actually reach out and maybe receive some help over the phone, even just someone to vent to is helpful.
I dont understand why the mum said 'no one told her that she was a suicide risk'- despite the fact that the police had turned up in the middle of the night-due to the nature of what was said in the childline call-that doesnt make sense.
I believe there are a number of gaps in the story reported. A policeman entering a house at 1:30am with no explanation to the parents! I doubt that very much.
The most ironic thing is at the end of the article, the following is printed in bold:
For confidential support call the Samaritans on ..........
