My SN arrived today. It seems to have come in a vacuum-sealed bag. I'm just wondering if it's safe to store as it is (still unopened), or if I should transfer it to another container? And if so, what would you suggest?

I plan to CTB in February 2026, so I need it to last over a year. Any help/tips would be appreciated, thanks!

hey, i would recommend transferring it to a tupperware container still in its original packaging, or a jar if you have one large enough. anything that can give a backup incase the vacuum seal fails.

Can I just leave the SN in the mailing box it came in? It is all sealed and the bag is presumably sealed inside it so I was just going to leave it as that seems to safest option to me.

hi @timorousTruant, is the any mention of Sodium Nitrite on the package?? i wouldn't want DMC to explicitly write it on the package to reduce to risk of it being seized

The outside package does not say SN on it, no. It's just a black box with a packing slip attached, no indication of SN. But inside the package, in the plastic thing the salt is actually kept in, it does say Sodium Nitrite on it. But I don't see how that'd be a problem.

If I were you I would just leave it in the black box in it's vacuum sealed bag. There's no need of transferring it

Thanks for the advice. I also need to ask, can a person travel internationally with SN? Will it be ok in luggage? I wouldn't want to really, it may just come to a point where I need to decide to take it with or not

I can't say for sure. Driving across borders, maybe, but I definitely wouldn't fly with it.
