Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

If you value the community and would like to help support its continued operation, donations are greatly appreciated. If you wish to donate via Bank Transfer or other options, please open a ticket.

The efficacy of self-poisoning is incredibly low (and, anecdotally, I've had many a family member or acquaintance fail to die via this method) but the availability and, furthermore, the significant brain-damage risks inherent in other convenient methods (e.g., hanging; that is, in the event you survive) renders overdosing somewhat appealing to me, not that it'd be anymore pleasant. Can those who've had a failed attempt via self-poisoning (or, any other method) describe to me their experience during and after in a good amount of detail?

Thank you.

If you search specific methods you will find this... eg. "SN failure".... and so forth....

Also worth looking at:

I think brain damage is a possiblity with overdoses...

There is a site BeyondAllHope which also has good section on why overdoses are so rarely successful. I wish it wasn't the case, but I almost think it's a myth that you can take some pills and go to 'death' peacefully..... Even if it appears peaceful externally, we have no idea what is going on internally, or spiritually if you're tha way inclined....

Many opiates can cause brain injury via hypoxia as a consequence of respiratory depression, which is typically the same mechanism by which an opioid overdose kills you in the first place; a fortiori, the asphyxiation part of hanging might bring about brain injury if you survive but can also kill you. I'm under the impression that the risk increases with repeated and habitual use as well, but isn't as likely in the case of an individual overdose as it would be otherwise.

Open question: is there a comparable degree of brain injury risk in drug overdoses which don't negatively affect your respiratory rate? Is it likely that such a variety of overdose could even kill you anyway? I have no clue; I'm sure you can tell I'm not a toxicologist. Simply because the fulcrum of conscious experience is ostensibly located in the brain, it seems unlikely that there's a lethal method (of overdosing or otherwise) that doesn't involve the risk of brain injury in the event you survive, which is quite bothersome.
