I keep on seeing stuff about an online safety act being introduced and apparently Apple and Wikipedia are suing the UK government?
If anyone could let me know some stuff that would be great, it would be cool to get to know what's been happening.

Basically the new UK government decided they want to continue the authoritarian regime of the previous political party, and implement the Online Safety Act which gives OFCOM the power to do what they want. OFCOM is now predictably abusing this power by requiring that all websites containing "adult content" contain age verification using government ID, risk assessments and a ton of other rubbish that aims to bully sites like this out of existence. It's just more stereotypical fascist censorship and surveillance that they have been pushing since the beginning of time only now they are making some progress. Also predictably, everyone started using VPNs (ProtonVPN gained 14x usage on the day the Online Safety Act was implemented) and in response the UK government threatened to ban VPNs, which just comes to show how far they've come. They are much worse than China.

They're implementing increasing censorship and control over society, using the argument of protecting children. Of course, this argument is just a smokescreen, because politicians don't give a damn about children.

I'm not from the UK, but it's no secret that all countries are moving in this direction.
We're witnessing a frog being slowly boiled. For years, countries and corporations have been taking away our freedom and privacy piece by piece, and now the effects are becoming more tangible.

Exactly what u said and none of it is to protect children they were literally arresting people who protested against the Muslim grooming gangs. They want to protect the pedophiles from what I've seen.
