While there is an increasing number of cases year over year (YOY), the total volume of cases in the article in Australia over the 3 year spam of the study analysis is 10 cases total through 2018. There was an increase and the increase is statistically valid for the time period but the alarming trend is not the increase in sodium nitrite poisoning, it is the overall increase in suicides in Australia. The Australian Bureau of Statistics shows the following trend in death totals by suicide:
