We landlock another country, Lesotho (beautiful mountains, incredible Basotho tribes :: the most learned population in Africa, apparently one of the highest literacy rates...) with the highest suicide rate in the world.
What do they know that we don't.
My country's a disappointing 10th on the list.
And another neighbour's Eswatini (Swaziland) is somewhere near fifth.
Life here is cheap :: staggering poverty and violence, but we have fun (highest hiv rate also) so there you go.
Wierd I haven't come across more South Africans on this site :: possibly cos in truth were a mix of 1st / 3rd world, and we don't communicate much :: anything worthwhile anyway (im testament to this).

Not technically but I can tell you where I live in Northern Ireland parts of it you would think so. Most people in my city would be considered poor or living below the poverty line. Our infrastructure is very poor. We don't have a Heath service anymore. Yet we would still be considered first world.

I've spent my whole life moving around the world and learning languages so learning Portuguese won't be hard if I have to do it.

Croatia. A third world country by mentality, and a first world country by decorum.

Frankly, I think religion has a major role in third world countries having less suicidal people.

Brazil for instance is a very religious country and since most religious, especially Christianity, condemns suicide, people are less likely to commit suicide.
