45 suicides out of 6,000,000 page views a month? Expressing peace and well-wishes, to someone who is intent on going, is encouragement? 16 year-old Daniel's parents had no idea he was even suicidal? These stories are always so slanted toward the views of those writing them. Where was the mention of all the people in excruciating pain who come here for solace and compassion?

I just read that entire article online, and like I already knew was going to be the case, these reporters just pulled the "evidence" they wanted out of the site in order to validate their hypothesis and support their own views on the subject. And PBS played right into their hands. I always thought PBS was a little more above this kind of behavior. I thought they were, basically, pretty "non-slanted", at least in their news stories. I don't know of anyone who wants kids to kill themselves. SS is not the cause of kids killing themselves. Maybe some of these parents need to look at themselves in the mirror first before looking for a scapegoat to blame for their child's woes.

On a serious note I have never seen anyone encourage suicide here nor that much acceptance of very young members. They are banned on sight and the ones verging on the age limit are often told that they have a good age to try to improve their lives before ending them.

I cannot watch all of that. I wish that our right to die is respected. So they want to force us to suffer until old age against our wishes. If someone wants to exit then they have the right to do so. No one else should have any say in it. Removing suicide methods would just mean that people would resort to risky methods to end their pain, it would not reduce suicide at all.

Even the people in the video could become suicidal and then they would want method information. I do believe that as humans that there is only so much we can cope with and in this life there is no limit as to how bad things can get. I think that the option of a guaranteed peaceful exit would make life more bearable for people in general.

I know before I came to this site I was more likely to attempt methods that would have failed and possibly left me damaged in some terrible way. I don't feel like this site encourages impulsive behavior. But again I have to tip my hat to these journalists because without their help I might never have found out about sn and also this site.

These kinds of sensationalized news stories have always seemed a bit silly to me. Suicide forums have existed for decades, before this site there was the subreddit, before that there was ASH and if this site goes down then there'll inevitably be another one. Suicidal people will always need community and places to talk free of censorship. They just want to get more clicks with "ooo scary suicide website is brainwashing your kids!", when in reality they're just going to move on to a new story next week.

They should be happy that our conversations are quarantined to an anonymous site so they don't have to hear it. What do they expect anyways if you want to talk about true feelings of wanting to die irl you can expect a flurry of unwanted prolife activity in response. I have always thought, and have even said to others before, that some of these stories they tell on TV news, in the newspapers, etc. do nothing more than give people ideas. I remember one years ago where it was reported on the news that some kids had been throwing rocks off the overpass on a n expressway. I think it was in Detroit. Well lo and behold, guess what happened? Some kids where I live got wind of the story and did exactly the same thing, except it was a more residential road which had a RR bridge going over it. Well, they threw a "large" rock off the train bridge and it went through the woman's windshield killing her. I think there's a lot of examples of things like this happening, where this stuff wasn't even being thought of before it got reported. Not that eventually it wouldn't have been thought of. But, I know it happens.

I found SS after reading the ny times article that came up after some suicide Google search. I hate what they mase this site appear to be but glad I found it.
