So it took a week, but I've finally started reading the PPH. Well. Is it strange to say I'm finding it empowering—and even exciting? The section on gases alone—making your own H2S (I actually took a certificate course in the dangers of that stuff), the components for which are cheap and easy to get—is a revelation.

I'm overcome with the feeling that I can actually do this! Are any of you feeling this way? That finally there's a way of taking back control? Which, for me anyway, is what this is really about…

I didn't realize it until discussing it with someone here, but I think getting to have control is a big part of it. We are pretty helpless in our lives, social influences, and interpersonal impacts all end up leaving me feeling like there is little real choice to make sometimes. But getting to take control of your life, knowing that you can keep or end it on your own terms is empowering! So yes, I feel this too.

Right? And I suddenly feel better than I have all week!

I did. I read it before I found this site and it felt empowering for sure. Then I came here and started to doubt everything and get a lot of anxiety with all the talk of failure and brain damage. Only now feeling more confident again. (Main method will most likely be nitrogen if I'm not able to get N.)

I've felt a sense of control and empowerment since joining SS and having such good information on methods. The PPH is fantastic and I've saved all of the pertinent info on my favored methods, I've done the same with information from SS' method threads and discussions.

I'm really looking at nitrogen too—N is so bloody expensive and has to come through customs…A debreather looks interesting too…

Totally agree—so much good information here—and everyone one (give or take) is in the same boat…

I'm not smart enough technically to deal with masks so I made an exit bag. It seems like the most peaceful method really. More so than N because N has that bloody awful taste.

To be honest, I found PPH to be quite underwhelming. I guess it's because I've read other sucide related books before it. I recommend checking out:
Geo Stone, Suicide and Attempted Suicide: Methods and Consequences
Derek Humphry, Final Exit
Chris Docker, Five Last Acts

Found it interesting, but also disappointing, since the options are slim to none here when it comes to getting stuff to CTB peacefully.

I always get five last acts and final exit confused. Keep thinking they're the same thing. Where can you find the geo stone one? Also the info he gives on hanging contradicts other information out there. Like if I remember correctly he says to put the knot at the front whereas everyone here agrees it should be middle back. I remember skimming through his hanging stuff but I didn't know he had a whole book.

I just downloaded it and found D's email address.
It's very empowering to have this option.
I just hope N passes the customs.

I found it very empowering until it became clear that due to my homelessness and fundlessness, there is no way for me to get a peaceful release, looking for a way out. Despondent, not sure what or how but not sticking around here, there is a bus with my name on it, it just may have to run me over after I jump from an overpass.

After reading multiple books on the same subject, they tend to blend together inside one's mind. I can no longer be sure what I've read in which one.

Older version of Stone's book had an obvious error that ended up on lostallhope.com (the left side, right side stuff). It is confusing, but it illustrates nicely why it is important to use multiple sources. All books have errors, and none of them have everything. I find Stone's book to be good introduction to the subject, and I recommend reading it first.

Lots of resources that were available on the old Suicide Wiki (link to archive) are still not on the new one. I have attached PDF of Stone's book to this post. Parts of the book, and some additional material are also available on the website:

H2S is hydrogen sulphide, a highly toxic gas that occurs naturally. Just a tiny amount and you're borked. It smells like rotten eggs. It's also very easy to make at home.

Can you ever ask to have a conversation? With whom—the authors? I don't know. Generally speaking—just guessing here—if you had genuine, interesting input, yes; if it's generic "can you help me find" I would think not. You'd probably be directed to their website/forums, whatever…

Please, please, please stay away from H2S. It is nasty, not guaranteed to work and could be deadly to first responders. I know they make it sound easy and quick, but it's really not. Please believe me. I know.

Yes, it's the danger to others that would rule H2S out. Can't do it in a house, and even if pasting warnings all over truck—I'm just not willing to take anyone with me…
