Over the past year, increased regulatory pressure in multiple regions like UK OFCOM and Australia's eSafety has led to higher operational costs, including infrastructure, security, and the need to work with more specialized service providers to keep the site online and stable.

Anyone else feel like this site is kinda toxic?

Hey, tbh I did not notice that, can you explain what you don't like, what seems toxic for you?
Well, sometimes there are opinions which are very controversial and certain individuals which may create an unfriendly environment to ones but will be acceptable to others.
Concerning information, the subject of a suicide is a taboo in our society so we have to collect the puzzle from a lot of different parts ourselves.

I've found it to be quite the opposite. I can't discuss my thoughts and feelings in my daily life and it becomes so overwhelming, knowing I can here and that I'm not alone makes it somewhat easier to cope with.

I like knowing I don't have to see the suicide hotline right in my face (followed by lists of articles on why suicide is bad) everytime I google anything remotely close to self-endangering. This site does well to give me the information I need, I haven't met any problems in the community (other than trolls).

I wish people would put threads in the appropriate sections... that makes it toxic for me.
I try to avoid the toxicity by avoiding certain threads.
like don't put, what do you love about life or im a kissless virgin in the suicide section.

It's not like that for me. Of course, negative feelings are floating about in the posts (especially venting, stories tags), but this is a forum of suicidal people, of course we're depressed. It's why we're suicidal in the first place.
Nonetheless, I think that the people can be encouraging and accepting without being patronizing/dismissive, more than any other place can be. The whole society tends to shy away from negative emotions; impose a forced/toxic positivity where they believe acting happy will lead to happiness. Suicidal thoughts are often countered with words like "dont think like that!" or "it will get better". This is the only site I can tell my feelings without fear of being dismissed, and I think thats valuable for people like us whose uncomfortable emotions isolate us from "normal", happy society.
In fact, what i like about ss is how its so non imposing. If you decided to ctb, people may ask if youre sure, but will ultimately respect your bodily autonomy and decisions. If you decided to back out, put it off, or give life another chance, the people on the site will cheer you on. The site respects people's decisions, and i dont know whats toxic about that.

I believe everyone is hurt in some way... I read some comments (mainly in farewell topics) and I get very sad about what seems to be often insensitive.
So I ask myself:
"Do these people really have control over what they're typing?"
I really don't know, I don't know if some people have control over what they're writing or write silly things for lack of empathy.
Personally, I think SS is the best place I have found, and I consider it my home. But really… I read some very hostile posts here.

I think whatever makes you feel worse is toxic. If you are here, it means you are depressed already. You feel miserable for your depression and you want to end it because it doesn't feel bearable.
I personally think ending one's like is more about one's personal choice over one's body, and that's your basic human right.
But I don't like the idea of adding more pain to anyone's life. I think everyone should try to minimize their pain whether its physical or emotional. And I think ctb'ing is one way.
I think that if seeing something makes you feel more miserable, and depressed, you shouldn't do it. For instance, in my case, I don't like seeing gory things, it causes a lot of mental pain in me, so I like to stay away from them. I think you should do something similar too And if anything in particular causes emotional pain in you, I think you should stay away from it.

I'd take depressive realism over naive optimism any day of the week.
Though there are genuinely toxic and strange people on here like anywhere else which isn't really acceptable in some cases. Also, some people share too many horrifying details from their personal lives that can trigger people easily.

Meh. I don't mind the depressive topics so much as I get irritated with certain mannerisms of other members. I block them and get on with it. But in general, no I don't think it's particularly toxic.
I would visit other forums / social media to try and see if there was anyone out there that could be feeling the same way as I do, and everything was constantly flooded with platitudes, suggestions about picking up a hobby, exercise, promises that the future will magically get better etc. It just made me feel more alone. Now I feel less alone in this really lonely world. And it's also comforting to see that pain is not dismissed on here.

I think that a lot of the time, the people on here can be pretty harsh when people are just venting. I've only ever had people be kind, and nothing has ever really rubbed me the wrong way except for one comment somebody made. I see your point though 100%
This is just me but I find comfort coming to this site. Just a few weeks ago when the site wen't down for more than a few days I got agitated and worried over the fact because literally every other site is pro-life rhetoric BS and won't entertain the idea that people should have the right to choose when to CTB. Though I won't deny that there has been some rather unpleasant threads here.
Every single person in my life tells me this site is toxic and I should stop browsing it, but honestly I cant see it.
This is the only place where I can talk about my feelings without judgement
I smell pro life propaganda

Many members have expressed this sentiment in the past. I think it ultimately boils down to ones own personal beliefs. The site isn't inherently toxic, the people here are amazing beyond belief.
But the subject matter here can get very dark at times. Which either is or isn't a problem for you depending on many factors.
If something bothers me I just scroll past it or stop reading it. Simple as that. The subjects here are going to be inherently deep to some degree given what this place is.

Hello brother, my is experience is actually pretty positive, I came here in a time of utter darkness and for me it has shone a light.
Indeed this place may not be for everyone, but I have found kindness and compassion here as well as suffering and darkness and I have tried to be part of the light, for myself and for those whose paths I cross.
Love and respect to you my brother

I feel like this place is a sanctuary for me, where I am able to be honest about how I am feeling. And most importantly without being judged or offered platitudes by people who have never suffered. To realise that I am not alone in my suffering and there is a place where I can belong, with people who simply just " get it". I believe wholeheartedly in respecting each other's views and that as an individual we have the right to self determination. I also believe that society is so quick to judge and I am open minded to pretty much anything, as long as it harms no one else. We all crave acceptance and I get that here, I feel able to just be me, without the façade that the outside world demands that I wear. Take out of this site what resonates with you and bypass that which doesn't.

I don't see how this site is toxic in general. This site is a safe haven where most people can truly express themselves. Of course there are some strong controversial opinions or even trolls but at least those are still in moderation.

Tbh. If not here I have literally nowhere to speak openly. This really comes down to the individual.
This site is only as toxic as you make it. If you come here to just talk about life being awful and listen to others talk about life being awful then yes you will feel like it is toxic.

I mean, this is a suicide forum. The nature of that means that theres going to be a lot of negativity. If you find that is bringing you down, have you considered taking some time away from the forum?
Whilst I do think the forum is helpful, I can understand how it could eventually become tiring reading this kind of thing all the time for some people.
