I also thought the concept of abstracting was designed to be a metaphor for suicide, if not death in general. The scene where Jax is pretty much having a DMT trip/NDE before he gets woken up and snapped out of that state made it clear that abstracting is totally "letting oneself go" and giving in to the concept of death. It makes me wonder if in future episodes Jax is going to lose it completely, especially because there are so many characters in the series (albeit mostly off screen) that have abstracted already, and the show seems to be heavily based on I Have No Mouth So I Must Scream.

Huge fan. I don't interact with the fanbase at all though because it's mainly minors. I'm super curious how they plan to wrap up the show considering there are only supposed to be 9 eps? I just hope it's satisfying.
