It depends what are you going through.
As I have seen Good results of anti depressants in people in my family but that came after trying many psychiatrists. Not all psychiatrists are effective. So, make sure you go to a reputed psychiatrist.
You can always CTB if you want.

So, may be give it a chance to improve through anti depressants

Absolutely worth it. Meds can help you feel better so you can think straight and potentially be more receptive to therapy. Antidepressants help lots if people lice better lives.

That being said, a few things to keep in mind:
  • You might have to try several different meds before you find one that works for you.
  • Meds will not fix your life. You still need to still work on good mental health practices and/or therapy.
You have nothing to lose by trying. Give it a shot.

of course, psych meds didn't cure me but certainly bought me more time and actually made me feel better, technically without them I'd be at a lower risk of ctb because I'd be too busy being in psychosis and OCD spirals about how I'll go to hell either way. So yeah please try meds

I'm on antidepressants for a year now. I feel better than before I started, but I'm not completely recovered and I didn't expect that either. Also my life became a lot more stable, so also look at other factors. Antidepressants aren't a magic pill.

You can always ctb. Give antidepressants a try, make sure you go to a good psychiatrist and give it some time.

Don't expect to feel really happy or something similar.

Also sometimes it can be confusing what you're actually suffering from. Someone I know had antidepressants before and he did have the symptoms but it didn't help him.

Eventually he started on antipsychotics and that did help him.

When I was a teenager, I went to psychologists twice but I didn't get diagnosed with anything. I was never really open about my problems and my parents didn't know about my traumatic experiences until I was a bit older.

it is important to be open, so they can help you. I don't know what you're going through, but this is generally important. It will save you a lot of time.

Good luck.

After years and years of being on them, I feel like all they do at this point is mask the awful truth about the complete nightmare that this world and human existence are. I'm done masking. I just want out.

Go on antidepressants. Medication like SSRI or SNRI may take 2 to 4 weeks to work.

I think it's worth trying. It's important to keep your expectations realistic, it can take up to 6 weeks to start working, and sometimes you have to be patient to figure out what dose or combination of antidepressants you need. You're not going to "get cured" or become "happy," but maybe it can help you keep going if that's what you want.

I've tried two different ones, and neither has relieved my symptoms of depression and anxiety, but I'm seeing my psychiatrist tomorrow to see if they suggest something else.
