Hey y'all,
Yesterday was real hard for me, but I just re-upped on my antidepressants and it's like night and day. I made this account yesterday figuring i'd post something very different today. I figured I'd let y'all know anyways that if you haven't tried them please give them a chance. They are not perfect, but sometimes they get you out of a pretty deep hole.

If you don't have insurance, there are websites where you can meet with providers and they will basically prescribe you any medication that isn't a controlled substance. You can pick most of these types of drugs at Costco. The process and the drugs costs like $65 total.

All I'm saying is if someone told me this 10+ years ago, and I had the strength to try it, I woulda spent a lot less of my twenties imagining jumping into traffic.

Most people here have tried all kinds of meds/treatments. You should've posted this in recovery.

And maybe it can make things a lot worse. They gave me PSSD
I'm sorry to hear that

They help a lot for a LOT of people. and some people are willing to trade feeling better for pssd
Like if it's suicide or a chance to get better (or still suicide if it does not work)...

I go for a chance.
Everybody makes their own decision

Having no emotions isn't feeling better. I'm dead inside because of meds and I'm far from alone. Dr's never warned me about this possibility. If only quack Dr's were honest then people could make informed decisions.

Emotional numbing is not the "aim" of antidepressants, and if it happens the meds should be switched. For some, it's not an issue of they struggle with intense emotions, but generally speaking it's not what these meds are for. If antidepressants are working correctly, they should let you keep a normal emotional range (including positive emotions). Also this numbing most commonly happens on SSRIs, which are the most common, but not the only group of antidepressants.

HOWEVER.
I very much agree that doctors usually do not warn the patients enough about the side effects. They just give you the med and go, "well trust me", without warning what may happen.

I encourage everyone - do your own research about the meds you get. Ask the doctor specifically about the unwanted side effects, well they might still not be honest - so research them online, in a few different sources preferrably. If you're able to process that information, learn the basic mechanisms of how different groups of medications work (for example what's the difference between SSRIs vs SNRIs vs NDRIs etc).
Keep in mind that the reactions people have to medications are highly individual. However, there are some general, "statistical" trends.

For me medications helped a lot, and without them I would probably not even *try* to recover in any way. But it was also because I researched the substances I was prescribed. My first psych actually gave me a drug that would most likely make me worse but I didn't even start taking it.

So tldr, trying meds is worth it, but please do your research about them and keep in mind that everyone reacts differently.

I'm really glad they helped OP, though. I hope you feel better and good luck <3

Antidepressants are a form of brain washing. There was nothing ever wrong with you. You saw what others cannot bare to see. And so, they prescribe you medicines, delineate personalities into clusters, force you to go to "therapy", all to try and force you back into the collective delusion again.
