Suicide prevention is repulsive, but it doesn't even make sense on paper. I will use an analogy. In a feudal world much like the medieval era, a ninja breaks their leg as they dash around from roof to roof. Their leg is rendered dysfunctional, so they drag themselves home and lie in bed. As it happens, ninjas have been breaking all their limbs left and right from all those acrobatics, and it's causing concern for the ninja society that relies on them to protect the lord's treasury. In response, the society spends large amounts of money on awareness campaigns, spreading information about how to spot a ninja who's broken one of their limbs and who to inform. They make posters and recruit motivational speakers that encourage ninjas with broken limbs to get out and get back to work, as painful as it may be. They hand out various painkillers and herbal treatments that are known to make it easier to walk outside and hold their weapons. Most significantly, ninjas who are found to have broken their limbs are taken to the infirmary, where the nurses lock them inside until they agree to get back on duty. But one ninja, with a gaping wound from a sword fight, notices some bandages and medical equipment lying around and thinks to themselves — why am I participating in this lip service? Why is no one treating my open wounds or broken limbs? They ask the nurses in the infirmary, and their response is always the same: "Staying in bed with a broken limb is something only the mentally ill do. We can't let you out of this infirmary until you're ready to get back to fighting."

Haha that is so true. Thanks for taking the effort to write this. I'm so glad I found this site, as every time I type "suicide" in some search engine, I always get the Mayo Clinic on what to do if you're suicidal. What they say makes no sense – they urge every suicidal person to walk into the ER. Seriously? Who the fuck would turn themselves in like that?
