I didn't have a virus or anything I was just cleaning my computer and installing a SSD with the help of someone and I guess they didn't know it was the same SSD I told them I had my files saved and they deleted all of them when installing windows?

I want to die. I spent so long on that computer and I had so many bookmarks saved, not to mention some files and pictures that were important to me. I wished I had been a little more careful. I don't know what I'm going to do now because I usually spend all my days on that pc.

Yeah I did look for recovery tools but they're like 50 to 100 dollars and I don't have money to waste on something that may or may not give me back my files. It feels almost like a scam

thats terryfying to lose many important files... Well its possible to recover some files but if its the same ssd you installed that got cleaned then most of them are probably long gone =(

for now try to limit creating new data on ssd cause it could wipe out potential data left. And i will research how to legitemely try to recover it later but right now im too tired to do anything...
well there is a windows recovery tool by microsoft in microsoft store but its a bit tricky to use

but its free atleast and im 99% sure its legit

None of the data is lost until you overwrite the files with new data. So you've got to be careful with copying new files to this drive.

Yeah, many people format the drive when they install a new OS.I've lost a lot of data in the past as well. Nowadays I just connect an external drive to backup data and disconnect it when I'm done.

Also To avoid this in the future, I would recommend creating 2 partitions on the drive. A small partition just for the OS and another one for all your files.

Sure but I don't know how to do that. I might look up how later

I've already tried using that and it only gave me some recent useless files I had (Microsoft files and stuff that I really don't care about). I'm using windows 10 btw. There was one recovery tool I used that worked but it required me to pay for it and I don't even know if the file was corrupted or not

That is very unfortunate, to avoid this you should always back up any important data on the cloud. Storing data only on a local drive is never reliable. On Windows you can put OneDrive in the file explorer and it's treated like a local drive.

I honestly think onedrive is the least reliable. I should have backed it up on my usb and not on the same SSD I was planning to use. I didn't think they would delete everything on there though.

Update:

I tried going on reddit to ask for help and it didn't work at all. I really shouldn't be surprised cause, it's reddit lmao, but I really got my hopes up because I was desperate. Idk what they have against me but no one there ever wants to help me when I post. They downvote me for some reason I genuinely don't know about and tell me the most useless shit it's really frustrating. I don't know where else to ask for help so my stuff is probably a lost cause. Hopefully I kms soon so I don't have to deal with this shit anymore, so tired of people rn

I'm sorry ppl on Reddit were rude to you. Try asking in another subreddit, sometimes certain subreddits are filled with know it all brats and u have to just ignore that and post in another one
