I think this is a very rare thing.
The fact that those cases are reported and make the news shows that it's not an everyday occurrence.
You probably have more chance of being struck by lightning than being mistakenly declared dead and buried alive.

People used to have bells on graves with strings running down to the coffin so the prematurely buried could ring if necessary.

Personally I have a harder time with that Hungarian (or Romanian?) morgue worker who revived a dead girl by having some necrophilic fun. How did she adjust after that, I always wonder.

As @worried_to_death points out, these kind of incidents are so rare as to be almost insignificant. When you consider how many people on the planet die every single day, a handful of these events per year is nothing. They also probably tend to happen in developing countries where the medical system is less thorough.

I worry about this sometimes too, even if it's exceptionally rare. Imagine waking up as the cremation furnace is warming up...

I worried the same, until I realised that bodies are embalmed before buried (you won't survive that) and you can also be embalmed for an open casket funeral, then be taken to get cremated, then buried or spread or taken away in an urn.
