I'm not really sure whether I am an alcoholic or not. I didn't drink heavily when I drank but I was drinking almost daily for 6/7 months so I guess it added up slowly. I've managed to stop the daily drinking but its tough because I still crave alcohol everyday. It helps me escape my autism temporarily. I don't like to use the word normal but I did feel normal when I was drunk. I miss that.

I too was drinking daily just last month.. And heavy dose of hard 44% rum. I'm still craving.. interestingly I'm being administered a med to stop my addiction.. So after that i don't like the taste of alcohol at all which i could earlier gulp without thinking twice.

ב''ה, I don't want to be a complete dick here but it takes having run the gamut to notice - it's so entwined with culture, and particularly by and after the 2000s became a shorthand for can't we have any fun and the 'occasional' relief from society's absurdities it's always been - but when they call it a depressant, unfortunately generally unless you space it out to at least the end of the week or however anyone's ever done it, well, somehow it does become a depressant as to mood, and Dostoevsky made a career but potentially everyone can become a Dostoevsky and we already had one.

This potentially gets worse in everyone's 30s, will potentially sneak up on a lot of folks around then, and as much as life sucks anyway if it's e.g. compounding not taking out the trash when you'd be happier with the trash taken out, y'know, maybe it's time to give nicotine more of a try (I joke, while ending up being the person who got on nicotine early and ends up trying to stay awake to at least make sure the tab is paid and no one's getting arrested) or really just cycle your substances and throw in some sober days to compare to before it's all DTs and no fun.

That said spent probably up to my mid 30s hitting the whiskey every other night and chugging a pot of coffee in the morning, so you can kind of make it that long but it may be worth noticing it's more fun and less reinforcing of realistic bleakness to give your brain time to make more happy chemicals between 'doses.'

I'm blursed with exactly that much self awareness and running out of joy quick whenever I keep it up for a week because my brain chemistry probably sucks that way, so partying with folks somehow in a different phase of it begging 'can we all feel worse for another three weeks until we run out of your money' gets the kind of grumpy I was in this one earlier with. As much as I'll acknowledge that some folks can consistently find starting the morning with a puke and a maudlin drunk talk beyond the bad enough actual woes of the world cathartic, while I'm in the 'damn, I already know my liver had enough and if I keep it up I just feel worse' portion of existence.

Curious what med? I want to stop but it's the only thing that stops the thoughts.

I'm being administered Naltima. I don't remember the exact chemical. But it's a good medicine. It makes the alcohol less effective and it has reduced my urges significantly.
I stopped taking my meds for a month so the cravings appeared again.

Thanks. I'll definitely look into it. 😁
