I'm glad for them. Prisons are hellholes and being accused of being a spy in China can be another way to lock someone up for jack shit.

I'm sure there is no options for defense in China. One is just guilty.

I tried this once when I was a teenager and it was horrible. It's a horrible feeling. The feeling of suffocating and the feeling of the plastic in your mouth and nostrils. My SI kicked into high gear and I couldn't follow through with it. I was a sobbing panicked mess. Now I have my SN kit ready when I am. It's insane what people can bypass when they're desperate and hurting and backed into a corner. This guy had to have had an incomprehensible level determination.

Brutal, maybe he had some contraband ways to reduce inhibitions (drugs or booze?). Autopsy might have been revealing, but the only public info looks to be declaration of suicide. If I were capable in that situation I'd tell the guard they're going to see a balloon trick, but I'm petty that way.

There's a way to make it less agonizing; to do that, you gotta purge the CO2 by the means of hyperventilation and hold your breath once you start to feel the effects of hypocapnia (tingling in extremities, dizziness, etcetera). As you do that, tighten the shoelace. Soon, you should black out and that'll be that.

Kinda like shallow water blackout.
