A lot of Australian surfers are happy to take the risk, and respect the fact that they are guests in the shark's territory. Article comments in online news sources over here tend to be mainly against the culling of that particular shark, or netting and other preventative measures in general. Probably because a lot of surfers are also conservationists, perhaps?

Not an expert on surfing philosophy but in my opinion the shark should live, its its natural habitat.

Thats not a guaranteed method at all. Sharks don't want to eat humans, they are not prey naturally. When a shark bites a human it is an accident and so many people have survived that.
