So some of my mutuals here know about my current situation with school. For those who doesn't know, basically I'm taking a gap year but I was elected to be a club officer for before the school year 2025-2026 started. I talked to my club moderator and I was welcomed to join events and all that.

Me and another officer that work together with asked me about my situation and probably told it to his classmate which is the current chairman of the club, and there I feel so shitty receiving a message from my co-officer about this:

"[my name], we talked with the chair regarding your case, and it appears that we don't want to disturb the club tasks since you're not yet enrolled in the department. It seems kinda unfair to you that we're making you work under our club even though you're not yet enrolled, like it's giving forced labor HAHAHAHAHA so we suggest, and especially also for me as a [position in the club], to focus first on whatever adventure you are in right now, and when you enroll next sem or next summer, surely you'll once again be a [position in the club] (I'm sure of that because we won't have 3rd years by then HAHAHAHAHH)"

First of all, I don't feel forced AT ALL and secondly I literally had to ask why they couldn't approach me directly but instead make my co-officer send the message to me. It hurts a lot because I told them how passionate I am and how much I wanted to work because it's the only thing that's giving me some purpose during these times. But they've already said that they already made the decision. It's so unprofessional for them to just throw me out this way.

Is it like, they didn't understand how upset you'd be about not being allowed to participate, and thought they were just being funny with that, or do you think they wrote that because they knew it would be hurtful to you?

That's kind of messed up of them then.. What are you going to do then? Try to rejoin? Do something else to fill your time instead? Maybe if you told them you don't view it as a burden and would like to continue being in the club, they'll let you. If you just ask calmly and emphasize that you don't view it as work.

Ok sucks they did that if you already said you wanted to do this, and that they communicated it so poorly.

But I can't get over why they laugh like a supervillain, not once but twice. It just comes out of nowhere. After the phrase "forced labor" of all the places you could put it. why on all caps? why so many HA's lol. That ending one :pfff:

again sorry this sucks, but I find it real funny how this person decided that and went ahead and thought it sounded remotely normal lol

I remember the other thread where you said you were going to take a gap year.

OK, I'm not going to lie. Seems like they knew how important it was to you, but that haha implies that they're doing it just out of spite. If anything, this would actually be a good opportunity since you have some free time and can immerse yourself in this.

Is there any beef you have with someone connected to them or something? Or is there some reason for them to dislike you? I can't think of any other reason why they would do this. Jeez. That's messed up.

I would say since they're saying it's unfair to you. Please make it clear to them that you're completely happy with it and they're not imposing on you whatsoever. They might be afraid someone might question them as to why they're extracting work from someone who's not currently enrolled. There's a lot of red tape associated with this kind of stuff. It might be that.

Just don't let this get you down and get you into a dark hole where you do nothing. Life will just get worse. If this club was making you feel a sense of purpose, you have to find some way to get that back, or some substitute, or else you'll get depressed. Better to not be depressed

Extremely poor for someone that's in their 3rd year in uni and the same people that embodies the whole club. Mind you this isn't just some small club, it's a big club in my department so it's that important.

Yeaaaah right?!?! Totally doesn't match with the message he's sending me ;-; It's unprofessional and insincere for him to say those things. I've frequently mentioned how I love working with them and that I don't feel forced to do the task. Is that not hard to understand at all?!

I don't know what went in their minds I feel so shitty about it like I'm on the brink of giving up

im trying to but I feel so empty now

I honestly don't know. They're my seniors so idk what I did to make them dislike me but holy cow I didn't like the way they handled this, even you guys said the same thing.

Yeah it could be that too. That's why I talked to my moderator first and she's more than alright for me to join events and all that, even the upcoming pictorials this Saturday. That pictorial I prepped for. I literally did an extensive skincare routine just so I'd look nice this Saturday but welp.

It's terrible they are handling this in a back handed way. You deserve direct communication and forthrightness. Sorry this is happening

She's a professor that handles the club. Basically the one that approves everything before it's submitted to the university school government.

No, I meant are you joining the events just to watch them or are you going to participate in those events?

but those officers won't let me
But now they don't have any excuse, right? So the moderator's willing and your willing. Doesn't seem to be any red tape. Then they should let you participate. Please talk to them once if possible. But let it go if they don't agree. I've seen people like this in my own school and college. There's no point pleading with them over and over.I'm sorry for the terrible situation.
