I have rope that should work for this purpose. I originally intended to use it outside for full suspension, but because I have an apartment to myself now where I won't be interrupted, I figure I can do what I need to here.

The thing is, there's nowhere for me to fully suspend myself. I have one door in the apartment, and I'm wondering if I can have the rope go over the door, maybe weight it somehow but partial hang and die that way? Obviously failing is my main concern. I don't want to live.

Yeah, I think that's how Chris Cornell did it. He put an exercise band made into a noose over the top of the door and closed it, so it wouldn't slip through. I guess your rope would have to be fairly thin to get the door to close though.
