even here where I live (Indonesia), where it's the same weather basically (only hot or rainy, no snow/winter), what you've said at the end about seeing other people basically being 'happy' celebrating christmas with their loved ones, 'happy couples' (especially!), friends, family, & any 'big, fun, productive, lively, functional, festive, vacation/holiday-related' or just any 'normal' activity basically; it's all honestly depressing to see/watch, as we're basically just alone

Cold weather usually means people will stick to staying inside meaning people will isolate. A lot of people get together for the holidays which can be a good and a bad thing ... because a lot of people have issues with family now a days because of divided ideals and thoughts.

I'm in Australia, so it's summer here yet myself (and many others) are utterly miserable, and it's always worst this time of year. I think it's because there's this expectation that you have a good time - time with friends and family - "yay". For many of us, that is actually a bad time (many families suck), or maybe we have no one, or we have good families but feel isolated from them because they don't understand our mental/physical health/pain/unhappiness. It's also a time to reflect, and I've had a shit year, and I'm mad at myself because I promised myself last year it would be my last Christmas but here we are, doing it again. People remember those they've lost, and that's horrible. If you are financially stressed it's worse this time of year. If you have a job and have time off you have more time with your thoughts. If you have to work through the season, that sucks too because it's busy and people are rude and rushed in general. I feel like it's that thing of if something is meant to be a mandated good time, it will inevitably be awful for a huge group of people.

Double-points for suffering when the heat gets unbearable down here too. I genuinely think I have a form of seasonal affective disorder specifically because I have abysmal thermoregulation in weather over like 30 or so degrees, which makes me stay inside with curtains drawn shut. Unless you like going to the beach, it's a bit agonising. Also probably doesn't help that the heat gives me nightmares and wakes me up earlier than I usually would. Either way, my mental health is consistently at its worst during Summer.

There's something immiserating about seeing the illusion of happiness being propped up this time of year for everyone that already has enough to be happy about. Rich get richer I guess.

Theoretically, this time of year is when people spend more time with loved ones. And when you don't have anyone, it's a magnifying glass to how lonely you are.

Of course, it turns out most people are just going through the motions and giving minimal effort to appear they care... but even when you realize this truth, it still hurts because they still have people in their lives that they go through this charade with... mind you, I'd rather have nothing than a charade, so I'm not jealous of the charade... but I know it is possible to care for others so it should be possible for someone to care about me... and seeing others not appreciate what they have, even if it is mostly illusion, is frustrating.

same thing as everyone else has said: holidays, more people being with their families around this time, the winter season (for NH, which could affect those with SAD)....

for me personally, december felt like a distraction from all the horrors in my life, and i'd make the most of it and have a great time, even when i've been a depressed suicidal pos for the past few years. but i suppose things have gone to shit so badly that not even december could give me a mental break this year....oh well, i'm still going to ctb after all of this mess anyways.

I find summer worse. Travelling to and from work I see all the people together outside pubs, or in the park. Meanwhile I hurry home to hide away. Strongly wish I was out enjoying company.

In winter the urge to pair up and get into a relationship is worse for whatever reason.

Because we realise how f*cked the year was and cringe at the thought of another year like the one that was. And very year it gets worse, so every December gets worse until we're totally f*cked, or dead eventually.

It's cold outside and there's very little light
You get bombarded with Christmas bullshit from all sides, forced to either confront your loneliness or participate in Christmas Parties which are just stressful.
People are way meaner and ruder due to the stress during Christmas
It's the end of the year and most people got nothing to show for it

Christmas, nostalgia maybe.
feeling left out, thinking about going back to work soon, the anxiety of the next year, feeling like something has ended and you did not accomplished anything (eventho the whole calendar is just a made up bullshit)
We are not in sync with nature, the time, this society is fucked basically and humanity has destroyed itself
