i don't understand why websites like daily mail report on suicides as news?

i totally understand the legal aspect of needing an inquest but a random news article posted is so unecessary and removes all privacy

surely those who need to know will know, what's the need of an article?

Because suicide is viewed as a shocking event in general. Death is shocking in general, and it feeds the negative news cycle while giving plausible deniability by saying that they are simply spreading awareness. Quite genius from a monetary perspective if you ask me, but pretty bankrupt when it comes to the moral side.

Most suicides don't get posted on the news. I think it becomes news only if it's a famous person or if the suicide was done in a public space and there was disruption and a lot of witnesses. If you do a boring regular suicide and you're not famous, you're probably not gonna get an article or even a mention.

in the UK it's pretty much always reported about on online news pages, whether it's a random middle aged man or a younger school kid

Do you know why they do that? In the US, if I recall correctly, they try to reduce coverage of suicide because they believe that a contagion effect happens when the media covers suicide in a shock-and-awe fashion.

To get the clicks. The shock factor plus a click-bait headline yields more people visiting the website. That's basically how all journalism is now.

It's terrible that it is broadcasted as news. Doing so only opens the departed to be mocked by depraved, twisted individuals to no end.
They thrive off news such as this.
