I was looking on that old infamous site watchpeopledie, the h/suicide section, looking for videos of partial hanging. Most of the videos didn't disturb me a whole lot, probably because the friends and relatives who would still be alive to feel pain at their suicides are out of the picture.

But in some videos the act is done in front of close ones. I've seen two videos of people hanging themselves in front of their kids, for example. In one of them the kid didn't seem to notice what was going on and didn't show any distress.

This video on the other hand is one of the saddest things you will ever see. The kid knows, he's crying, holds his dad's hand, and even moves the chair back and tries to get his dad's legs back on the chair.

Apparently the dad did it because his woman cheated on him, which I don't feel is a good enough reason to CTB. And right in front of your fucking kid?!

Then again I try not to be too judgemental with this stuff. It makes me wonder: what would be crueler for a parent to do? Hang themselves in front of their young kids, or where they are out of the way, and just get the news second hand that their parent is no longer around? I wonder if there is some kind of honesty about doing it in front of the kid, at least then they know what has happened and that their parent was in such torment that they would do that. But I'm probably just missing the mark. I know two people who have seen their family members hang themselves, and neither of them are in the best spot mentally.

Idk. I just think most parents should not CTB, unless they have extremely good fucking reasons. And if they do, at least leave a letter and gifts behind to let the kids know they thought of them.

Yeah, I don't think it's too beneficial to cast judgment on anyone. What's that old saying, something like "until you walk a mile in someone elses shoes", or something like that. That being said, I'd never ctb in front of my kids, or anyone, for that matter. The only 2 things we have any real control of in this world are our own actions, and our reactions to what others do.

It is horrible of course. No parent should ever do that to the child, but when you are in a fucked up state of mind, you just don't see clearly. You don't really know the difference between good and bad. His pain was probably so intense that he just wanted it to stop, no matter what. Regardless, i'm not saying it's right at all, but he was probably not himself anymore.

And i'm saying this being fully traumatized, because my father tried to kill himself while I was sleeping in the other room. It happened 17 years ago, but i'm still not over it and i never will be. But i'm not mad at him anymore, i understand what he felt.

How old are the kids? If they're really young they might not know what's really occurring

They are most likely very mentally unwell. Not all suicides are planned well in advanced, a lot of them are impulsive events brought on by extreme mental anguish

I thought about that a great deal. I'd never even want to take the chance that my daughter would find me… now she's in college. I've wondered how old she'd need to be to feel the least pain. I lost my father to cancer when I was 32… I just don't know that I want to hang around another 12 years.
