i know all the media reporting from new york times (2021) to kenneth law (2024) caused a huge surge in views on this site, but i think this scale of 200 users : 5k viewers is a bit too much? what does the viewing actually contribute to the site except trouble? do they get ads so servers can be paid or anything?
Morbid curiosity, probably. That's what initially led me here before I decided to make an account. There are also quite a few lurkers who are depressed and/or suicidal but don't quite feel safe registering an account. Plus, it is as you say, this website is rather notorious, and it's only to be expected that it would attract a lot of spectators.
