  • Hey Guest,

Today, OFCOM launched an official investigation into Sanctioned Suicide under the UK’s Online Safety Act. This has already made headlines across the UK.

This is a clear and unprecedented overreach by a foreign regulator against a U.S.-based platform. We reject this interference and will be defending the site’s existence and mission.

In addition to our public response, we are currently seeking legal representation to ensure the best possible defense in this matter. If you are a lawyer or know of one who may be able to assist, please contact us at [email protected].

Hey. Made this account years ago & lurked awhile & forgot. TL;DR - I've been pretty sure I no longer want to end things. That said, I sure as hell still think about it.
I'm having another "episode" and I am lacking somewhere I can openly talk about wanting to hurt myself without people being disgusted and/or telling me to "just not" do any maladaptive coping mechanisms. And remembered this forum...

I'm just proud of myself that those things feel preferable to drowning myself under a sheet of ice. If they will shorten my life and/or the quality of it, then I do not really care. When and if things get better for me, I'm sure I'll care more.

So essentially I want to ask if anybody knows a "safe space" where one can discuss SHing habits and be informed how to hide/minimize/etc them instead of be pitied or worse. I wondered surely here if anywhere there might be someone who also conceptualizes destructive habits as a sort of alternative to true idealization of death. Apologies if this is not appropriate for Recovery forum; there really seems to be only 2 opposing categories. Again I have not lurked here in a while, so I am not up on etiquette :/

I think it is OK to discuss self-harm as part of recovery.

Things like cutting and eating disorders can be symptomatic of trying to drive out various anxieties through establishing a routine or ritual of control. It may be possible to transfer some of these habits to less destructive ones over time. It sounds like you have already had some success in establishing more control over your life.

Many alcoholics in attempting to gain more control over their lives switch to smoking cigarettes. This is still unhealthy, but it can be a workable first step towards more healthy control of their lives.

I agree with timf, I've personally seen SH as a harm-reduction to actual suicide, and it is such an overlapping behavior that asking for support about it here would be more than welcome.
