I think it's amazing! Everytime I watch it I like it even more, the way that they represented loneliness and human emotions was unique. About Shinji, I guess he's one of the most relatable character for me, every time I watch it, it pains me to see how bad he just wants his father to show him affection (the scene that he compliments shinji and he gets so happy made my heart ache), also I relate to the way he is closed and although he doesn't want to be alone he pushes people away (The hedgehog's dilemma ). Also I think that all the other characters have great storyline but I better stop here.Similar threads
