I don't think I've seen a thread on this, yet. You can tell which mental state has taken over the majority of my life at a time by my weight. When anxiety is high I get skinny, when depression is high I lean towards overweight. I go to a gym regularly, my diet could be better... I would love one day to be balanced and actually have a healthy body to match.

Anyone else experience this? or something similar?

Why? Sensory things are really what I enjoy. What I feel I take forgranted. Touch, smell and taste are all gratified by food. I'd say sight as well but what I eat doesn't look great tbh

Spot on! Was a yoyo dieter most of my life, directly related to relationships. When I was in one, "married" and feeling loved, I got fat. As a single, I would lose it. Most of the time.

That has all changed now but it took some effort.

Oh yes I understand. My weight has been a big topic of self hate. I was extremely skinny like 84lbs or 38kg. I hated myself I had no appetite...then I started taking antihistamines and xanax (since excessive histamine causes low appetite). Now I eat when depressed and I'm still health normal weight bit could overweight if I keep it up. I went from 84lbs to 115/120 lbs. Food is comfort now.

I believe food genuinely is the foundation of good health, whatever mental or physical issues we suffer from. The trouble is, for many, a good diet is really unappealing when faced with cheap, carb rich, addictive alternatives. I believe comfort food gives short term gratification and long term metabolic complication.
Eating well won't solve all your problems, but it may give a more stable foundation on which problems can be realistically approached. But it's really tough. I want to give up all the junk food I eat as i know it does me no favours, yet I still find myself reaching for the sweet treats because eating half a plate full of veg can be boring.

I'm overweight because eating is the only way I can pretend to fill the emptiness I feel all the time.

I've been yoyoing in the past 3 years or so but always ate the same things (maybe state of mind, stress, anxiety, and quantities impacting my weight). So went from quite fat to below normal BMI to gradually fat again. As someone said above, high stress and anxiety make me skinny, depression makes me fat.

I'm pretty healthy until I'm not, then I turn into Slimer and binge eat like crazy. Have done my whole life but mostly have aha doe on things. Since Dave died, it's gotten way out of control. Binging is self harm and then I'll starve for like a week after.

I'm overweight for the most time of my life. Mainly because of bad eating habits and my aversion to doing sports. Junk food actually makes me feel better so I go on hurting myself. Besides, I'm pretty sure atherosclerotic disease or heart condition will not kill me anyway.

I've been fasting and eating rice cakes and protein bars because the olanzapine made me gain weight by making things taste extra delicious. Especially chocolate.

I lost 5 pounds last week.

When depression/anxiety really bad and intense my appetite disappears altogether and I stop eating.

I tend to lose weight when I'm stressed and depressed.
It effects my appetite in a big way.
