I had a part-time seasonal job for a while that I actually genuinely enjoyed. It was with a cool company and they told me during my interview that they hired most of their seasonal employees for full-time jobs.
Well, the season's over, and guess who they didn't hire?
I thought I was getting somewhere, and now I'm back to square one. Living in my parents' basement with no friends and nothing to do, watching them slowly lose faith in me. I've failed at everything in life. Went to a name-brand school in the middle of nowhere that I fucking despised, spent four years being miserable, and this is what I get.
I'm going to buy rope tomorrow. Was going to give myself until the end of the year, but maybe I'll do it sooner. Don't know how much more of this I can take.

Sorry man. The unemployment thing is horrible. It's part of what led me to where I am I just couldn't stay employed. I feel you.

You will find something else. Fuck that company. You have a college degree from a reputable school. Be proud. Just show your parents you are trying. Please don't give up just yet.

Yeah, been there multiple times.
Companies are a bit schizophrenic.
Plans are offered and fall tbrough but may be revived only to fail.
It requires fortitude.
I am sorry you got hit by this bus.

Maybe the cynic in me but, I've heard that line also at interview: 'It's only temporary now but, we do take a lot of temps on afterwards.' The job I did, no one or perhaps only one person was given a job at the end.

I suspect they say it in order to motivate people. People are more likely to work hard to make a good impression, do overtime, accept their hours being messed about to suit the company- if they think that will impress their employers. I actually think it's a pretty sly and manipulative tactic and I'm sure they do it intentionally. (Unless they did in fact give out loads of jobs at the end- do you know whether they did?)

It's massively disappointing though. Especially when that got your hopes up. You're by no means a failure though. You got that job to begin with and held it. Other employers would be able to see it was a temporary contract so, there's no shame there. You picked up some experience and you enjoyed it- which is impressive really. Not many jobs I've particularly enjoyed! It's not the best outcome but, you do know that you could be comfortable in another job like it maybe. I hope you do find something similar. Did you express to them that you enjoyed working for them and, would like to do so again? It's possible they may consider you in future also.
