I'm from rural northern Minnesota and I arrived in new Mexico a couple days ago. Drove through Montana, wyoming, Utah - main places I've never been and am just feeling completely empty and horrible with realizing how boring and horrible most of this country is and am really regretting leaving my hometown.

Or just drop any random place on Google maps and it's all the same. All the beautiful places are far and few and when theyre there they're overrun by tourism and shit

I might just feel this way cause I have no social skills and can't meet interesting ppl but I don't understand how normal people aren't completely miserable living in these places and how they go on

You should try looking up and doing research on the places you're going to and pick a place that speaks to you. Visit the place and make a list to check things off kinda like a bucket list. it'll be more enjoyable to travel and you can have more things to look forward to, and while you're out and about try to practice social skills.

Nahh. I can guarantee it's just because everything is ugly.

Tons of native american plant species were killed by invasive plants brought from europe and gmo seeds made by greedy corporations.

They keep mowing down beautiful landscapes to build ugly as highways and roads.

And worst of all decent buildings and pretty infrastructure are birderline illegal to build.

We can't even build pretty shit anymore because corporations own all the land and want to build cookie cutter investment properties and strip malls.

Genuinely corporate minimalism has ruined the esthetics of this country.

And then we also just have boring ass deserts here too. Like nothing really happened to them, deserts are just boring unless u like deserts.

And also u lowkey just happened to be driving by the ugliest and most boring fucking states ever. Like wyoming and Utah are just like boring places.

As for why ppl who live there aren't depressed is because most ppl that live in these middle states have large families so that's enough for them and they have usually never left the state or even their town so they don't know there's better places.

I expected some pretty sights in Montana at least from playing far cry 5 but I never realized 90% of it is flat nothingness unless you're in the far west 😭

Yep. Most of the human world is the same at this point - not just America. Everything has been commodified. The only exceptions are maybe places where there is immense suffering, like many countries in Africa.

I don't really understand people who say that they live to "travel". I never understood this ambition. I really don't understand how the average person is so enamoured by the inane meaningless lives of other people and places.

Honestly i didn't include Montana i the ugly states list for the same reason. Thank u for informing me that the state is kinda boring too. Honestly unless ur going to big cities, mountain states or like forest states ur shit outta luck with hoping for pretry landscapes.

One good thing I will say though is that every person I have talked to in new Mexico has been super nice and friendly way more than the cold fake niceness in the Midwest

all the states you mentioned have some of the most beautiful views in the entire country. it may help to make an effort to go find them instead of staying in the flat boring parts. there is more hiking than a human can hope to accomplish in a lifetime around new mexico, the towns and cities are stuffed full of amazing artwork and food, theres museums and national/local parks all over. its underestimated how fascinating it can be to learn local history and go see historical landmarks. talk to natives on the reservations about their lives/experiences/history. youre surrounded by new local ingredients and menus, find some new dishes to cook for yourself. maybe think about what in minnesota you enjoyed or interested you the most and go seek an available parallel in a new location? idk if this all sounds pedantic or stupid but most places will feel relatively boring and silly unless you make the effort to make it not boring for yourself.
