For what it's worth to everyone here, I have adopted a perspective that, well, helps put things in perspective. Inspired by Stoic philosophy, whenever some shit happens that I wish did not happen, one thing that I tell myself is that none of it will matter 100 years from now.

When you find something that grips you in the moment, part of the battle is dispelling the creeping feelings of self-sabotage that tell you it will remain so forever—because in the bigger picture it will not—it just seems so. It becomes, as the Germans would say, der Schnee von Gestern (the snow from yesterday) very quickly. For younger members here it may seem longer, but time will take care of it. IMHO The sooner you accept this is the sooner that you can appreciate the fleeting and exquisite nature of human experience. You owe it to yourself to realize that nothing is permanent. This is tonic for the long run, and helps you focus on the long term outlook.

for me personally I think it's because
1. Human nature to do the things that one regard as enjoyable and stay away from things that cause us pain
2. Family and friends are core part of who we are, we care about them especially if they are the same
3. Humans are wired to have their life well-balanced and therefore constantly aiming to improve it for the purpose of eventually establishing a stable basis for your offsprings.

Above are some reasons I think is why we care.
It may not be relatable to everyone because we all have different experiences whether something nice or traumatic.

When I was doing really good, about a year ago, I was in the habit of making a mental marker everytime I hit a low and everytime I hit a high point throughout my days, and made a promise to remind myself of that point when, inevitably, a few days later, I would hit the opposite point again. That really leveled me out in a way.

I know how you mean.
I was not very good with putting it in the right words but I reckon What I said it was only a tip of the iceberg and it doesn't even apply to everyone.

I suffer from birth defects, bullying, identity issues,
depression anxiety those kinda things I actually kinda deny them in a way,
In a sense I believe there are situations and experiences which trigger mental Illness
It's not only important to get counselling/medication, have family or friends support, it's also necessary we are not affected by the root problems anymore.

When I was really low at home for a period of 4 years, a few years ago
I just didn't care about the good days,
Was full on suicidal, smashing my arm into wardrobe glass cause I was so angry.
I wrote out my anger on the wall.

Nothing lasts forever, not even the world. Feelings will pass, moods will change, things and people will come and go. I try and care for the moment but then try and let it go.
