like...
if someone ties a knot around their neck, even one that doesn't tighten, but just stays the same even when someone jumps, they would still die when they jump, right?
or no?

what exact "mechanism" is it that causes the killing?

No. It is very simple.
Adding some comfort and reliability does not make it more complex. It just takes a little planning.
Search threads and ask questions.
Jumping is not needed.
A tightening noose is faster than a fixed loop. Both will work, why make it take longer.
Restricting blood flow is how it works.
No "strangling" involved.

No. Broken necks are in executions where they drop you. Also in movies and animations.
The home game is no drop where the noose just closes arteries and you pass out. Time finishes the task.
