What a horrible thing to say. So sorry. You are not alone. Not to make it about myself, but my parents have said the same thing to me - they have no idea how much it hurts because they've never been in our position, so I think they're just saying it carelessly. I'm praying things get better for you

A part of me is wondering/hoping.....is it possible that they are misguidedly trying to use reverse psychology or 'tough love' or something stupid like that? (Still no excuse, it was a truly awful thing to say).
