Maybe one of the reasons why people struggle to overcome the "Survival Instinct" is because they call it that. What if we instead called it "Survival Choice." In that way, we are suggesting that it is a choice vs. some very difficult thing to overcome like something innate.

I'm not sure if calling it anything different or a different name would change much, but all I can say is that our body involuntarily does everything it can to avoid pain, to survive, to cling onto life, even if the rational part of our brain says death is better and life is more suffering. I can't really fully answer this question as it is something that is different for everyone, but I can say that it doesn't matter what I call it, my innate body and mind will always be scared when death is truly coming; it's just a part of human nature I guess.
