I never tried it before, never had access to it. I've felt this way for maybe five years or so. Well, I know the answer is obvious, but it's so hard to access. And nobody gives a shit about how I feel, not my parents nor any institution nor my friends nor anybody else. You know, a few years ago I was actually given a number for counseling when I was getting investigated by the FBI but I had lost that pretty quick and never called, I was like 15 back then. That's a long story, I won't get into that. But, I have no fucking idea what to do. I need some support system, I need some actual help. Beyond the mental stuff, I live in poverty and I can't learn a trade or join the military because I have a chronic skin condition: so the two quickest paths out of poverty immediately gone. And I felt extremely suicidal and failed out when I was in college, I really felt like killing myself even more back then (like all day, from when I board the bus to school to going home): now the feeling comes every once in a while and I feel better than I did back then.

But basically, should I try to get some counseling? Worst case scenario things stay the same, best case: I get a little improvement. Been thinking maybe a university clinic because they're affordable

Therapy can help depending on what you put into it and the training of the therapist :p It's worth a try in my opinion? I had some very life changing advice and help from professionals. Usually some tweaks to your mind set can honestly help you live a happy life that feels somewhat worth-while.

Exactly this. If you think there's a chance it might improve your situation then go for it, if it doesn't you still have this place, no? I mean, if things are already FUBAR for you so much that you ended up here then trying to make it better shouldn't hurt, right?

I would say go for it. I

And you can also see the self-help resorces in the pinned threads on recovery. I know this is not a support system but maybe will be helpful

these are lists

I think it's worth trying if you have a chance. Even if it doesn't change your life drastically, you can still get something good out of it. There are objectively better and worse therapists, and sometimes it's about finding a "good match" for your situation and personality - but I believe you are able to find someone who can help you even a bit. There are many professionals who genuinely want to help and really care about their patients, and even if your problems cannot be easily "fixed", it's good to have some support.
