Rules when it comes to messaging a moderator/admin?

I've been sifting through threads, but I can't get an answer. I don't want to be presumptuous and DM a moderator if it's against some etiquette. My reason for wanting to message a moderator is to clear up a couple of questions that, I guess, aren't directly mentioned in the rules. I don't know. Maybe making this thread is more obnoxious than just going for it?

you can message one or start a ticket. as far as messaging goes i typically just wait until someones online and depending on who it is. i find some people answer more compared to others (maybe theyre busy or dealing with their own things, idk).
