So I signed up to be an organ donor. Over a year ago might be going on two years at this point actually. Or yeah probably two. So my question is and this is gonna sound weird but like number one if I kill myself and it's known that I died by suicide are there people who maybe for like religious reasons or whatever won't take my organs because they know I died by suicide and they find that to be tainting in some way? And number 2 is there a way I can decide who gets priority in the vent of where my organs get donated to? For example I continue masking even know so I don't catch COVID so I can have the healthiest lungs to give when I die(also prioritizing methods of suicide that don't hurt my lungs). Is it possible I could prioritize my lungs to someone for example with cystic fibrosis or someone with Long COVID respiratory damage ideally someone under 18 or even under 16? Weird question to ask honestly but I'm still curious

You get no choice on who gets the organs after you die. You only get to choose to give them. That's it. They will base on who you match for and priority of the person who needs a matched organ.

That said... suicide and organ donation are very much incompatible unless you live somewhere that legal assisted death is legal. Even if you kill yourself with something that doesn't itself damage the organs, in order for you to definitely die of suicide and not be interrupted and saved, you have to try and ensure nobody finds you until you are dead... but the catch-22 is, once you are dead, your organs become unusable for transplant. They have to be able to keep blood pumping and oxygen circulating in you to keep organs alive and healthy to be available for donation once you are brain-dead.

It's going to be all but impossible to time your suicide such that you are successful AND people are on the scene immediately to save your organs.

I think Dejected is right, I heard they take organs from people medically classified as dead but with their heart still beating

I guess they can't take organs from someone who committed suicide

I guess they could harvest your organs if you go to the ER and blow your head off with a shotgun but that would also traumatize a bunch of people and make a huge mess.

Yep. Even in England which has an opt-out system of organ donors (you are opted in by default), only 1% of deaths annually are medically suitable for organ donation. I only just found this out recently as I wanted to donate my organs like @MANGIONESHUSBAND also, but if you die at home, your organs cannot be donated, only if you die in hospital in exactly the right clinical conditions mainly.
