Hi everyone I'm writing from Europe because the news we get here about what's happening in the United States especially concerning LGBTQ+ support lines and services is very unclear and often contradictory Some sources say certain programs are being cut or restricted others say it's still too early to notice changes So I wanted to ask directly to people living in the US have there already been real changes to helplines support programs or federal funding for LGBTQ+ resources Have any services been cut limited defunded or modified or is everything still running as before Any first-hand information reliable sources or personal experiences would be really helpful to understand the situation better from here Thanks in advance to anyone who can share something 🏳️‍🌈

Hi!

I live in a blue state in the U.S.

Let me explain, a blue state is considered liberal, and a red state is considered conservative.

Now Trump, the orange face, I DISLIKE him and all his policies, just took away funding from the suicide hotline for LGBTQ+ folks. The Trevor Project had a 26-million-dollar contract, and he canceled it.

The entire upshot of everything with orange is that there are 2 sexes and that is it period.

Since I live in a blue state, we have programs to help EVERYBODY period and I am so glad to live in my state.

Apolgis if slf lk as tho am followng u arnd - slf promse am nt -- am jst fmiliar wth ur questn bcse hve bn follwng th/ nws

Th/ 988 dirct lnk fr LGBTQ ppl whch ws startd in 2022 = b-ing stoppd frm Jly 17

LGBTQ ppl wll nd 2 contct spport charty Trevr Projct dirctly frm thn

Thank you so much for pointing this out — unfortunately, it confirms exactly what I feared. The decision to shut down the direct LGBTQ+ link through 988 starting July 17, 2025, isn't just a technical adjustment, it's a very clear political signal. It's yet another step backward in protecting LGBTQ+ individuals, especially youth, who are once again being forced to seek help on their own, without any public mediation. It's extremely troubling that a system designed to provide immediate and specialized support is being dismantled precisely when LGBTQ+ vulnerability remains critically high. And it's telling that all this is happening under the excuse of "refocusing" funding, when in reality it means shifting the burden of life-saving support onto private organizations, while the State steps away from its responsibility. It's obvious that something is changing — and not in the right direction. Thank you again for sharing this, because from here in Europe, everything we hear is distorted or unclear — and knowing that this lifeline is being removed says more than a thousand official statements ever could.
