Question about buying a gun in Ohio

I am worried about passing the background check. One time I voluntarily went to the hospital for suicidal thoughts and they put me on a 72 hour hold for observation at a mental facility but was released after the 72 hours. I never had any hearing so I wasn't sure if I am OK to pass the screening.

I am also in Ohio. You will have no trouble with the background check for voluntary commitment. I have been voluntarily committed more than once and have no trouble getting guns.

I was just worried about being denied because I know that I will be super nervous going into a gun store anyway but getting denied would be even worse

As an alternative to the background check, as an Ohio resident, you can find private sellers who do not require background checks here:

Doesn't look like there are any shows near me for a while. If you think that I'll be ok to buy at a store I will give it a try. Any recommendations for which gun to get?

For a handgun, .38 caliber or larger with hollow point ammunition. You can also check the firearms megathread for suggestions.
