On videos in YouTube or posts on Reddit, when someone expresses suicidal thoughts, there is always endless reply threads full of comments saying desperate shit like "don't kill yourself, you are loved" and "nooo, please stay, buddy" and "even though I'm a stranger I care about you". Yeah sure. Where are all the "caring" pro-life people when someone is in pain or needs help? Where are they when someone is stuck in addiction, or has to be a squatter on unused property to avoid freezing in the street homeless? Where are they when a man gets divorced and loses contact to his children? Where are they when someone has chronic pain and can't work and pay bills? Where are they when someone is hopelessly in debt? They are only there when they can play hero and think they saved a life. A life which will die anyway eventually.

Where are they when someone's stuck in addiction? They bombard that person with moralizing tut tuts saying how "addiction bad" without any actual advice on how to get help. Where are they when someone's showing signs of mental health spiralling that aren't something minor? Either calling 9-1-1 bc they feel threatened or they're too busy trying to either get someone else to handle it or are so put off by it that they just don't do anything. Where are they when someone is homeless? Too busy going about their day and sharing anti-homeless sentiment which is so vile imo. When someone's shutting down due to sensory overwhelm? They take it as acting up and just say to behave yourself better or to just deal with it bro. They don't want to really handle it so they just brush it off with the same talking points that don't actually fix anything.

My favorite one is "you matter." It's always posted with the air of a wise old man, too. It's like yeah, I know exactly who I matter to in life, and it isn't to some internet stranger. I love being talked down to by anonymous people who have already decided I'm not thinking straight. It doesn't even matter if I matter. If my life circumstances are crap and I've exhausted my coping resources, then how could I be expected to go on? Granted I'm not real suicidal at the moment, but I've had all of these thoughts and more in the past.

Everytime an edgy 13 year old says "Your skin isn't paper don't cut it" an angel loses its wings. I get that they mean well but I hate how they ignore the reasons why people are depressed in the first place and give corny solutions, thanks I'm aware my skin isn't paper and that my life isn't a movie but my life still sucks lmao.

Exactly. From family to firefighters, media to doctors and the medical industry they care only about extending life, not quality of life. Even before I was suicidal I never understood why for example a 55 year old with cancer would want to undergo harsh chemo treatments that, albeit kills the cancer, but leaves them with permanent hearing loss, nerve damage and partial blindness for like 35 more years of existence. I'd rather just ask for palliative care and call it quits. 55 years of quality life is enough.

I also hate pro-life platitudes. Especially when my own experiences disprove a lot of them. It DOESN'T always 'get better.' No, you DON'T love me even though you don't know me. Very few people are capable of what we call 'love.' Not romantic love, but the fundamental respect and nurturing that we used to give each other in primitive, tribal societies. Most pro-lifers are just triggered by the idea of someone looking at all the human race has summed up to be life, and saying, "no thanks, I'm good." I think that's a disturbing display of autonomy in the minds of most humans. It bothers them that someone can have money, sex, and things... and still want to depart life. Catching the bus triggers natural inflection and reflection upon individual and total life.
