This was my reason for not marrying or pursuing a life long commitment. I recognize now that I had confused ideas about marriage since I grew up seeing like 4 male partner changes in my formative years while living with my mother. I just got the message that relationships often fail and it's likely that this will happen to me too. I didn't know that marriage is meant to prioritize the well being of the kids, better financial stability especially for women and kids, and the two partners are supposed to stay together out of duty maybe more than anything. There are many benefits to marriage but these days the way society is I think marriage is harder to make work because the state has subsidized, promoted marriage breakup and single motherhood for the last 50 years or so. There's a big lie told to women that we can be equal to men in every way but this is not true. Sorry this probably doesn't belong in this forum lol! I was just feeling like posting my morning thoughts.

It is the 'nobody owes anybody anything' narrative and focus on emotions. As if whims and fee fees is enough reason to play with lives! Marriage is a choice, not a funtimes event where the couple should pick at their feelings and overthink. It sickens me to see this 'communicate and compromise' thing done to death, no let me tell you what. It is fuck, embrace and shut up and get on with life. Not endlessly discuss who loads the dishwasher or if that comment was supposed to be hurtful or if you are very much in love today.

Don't know about the with kids version, it must be a whole new level of responsibility. Even less likely to work with a fee fee obsession.

Right we often think the grass is greener. Tragedy or disappointment happens no matter what direction u go in life but there's definitely ways to minimize disappointments and failure if u get accurate information about the world, and behave in prosocial ways.
