As I was testing the night-night/tourniquet method and my trachea got blocked and head got puffed up, I was thinking what would eliminate these problems. By pushing my thumbs on the carotids, I start blacking out. Never completely because my arms and hands start to get wonky and I release. Then I came up with an idea.
If blocking the carotids is what kills you, why not avoid the side effects of suffocation (with the afore-mentioned methods) by using a clamp on each side of the neck? Padding on the back, maybe even a small plank to prevent slipping, and a long metal piece of the device (with some padding to make it the right size) going right for those pesky carotids and putting all the pressure on the small area.
Two of these babies should do the job without constricting the trachea. This is just an idea and I haven't tested it. I don't have any clamps at hand. It may not even work. Let's call it the Point Pressure Method. Feel free to discuss, criticize or test it.
