Hi there,

So, I didn't want to go hanging method but it's looking like my only option, I read so many stories of people not able to get a partial hanging to work and currently I'm not sure I could get it to work either. So was looking at full suspension, the only 'high' ligature point in my house is only about a foot taller than I am, is there anyway I could get that to work or it just wouldn't be high enough I would assume? Just thought I'd ask before I start having to look outside of the house or potentially looking into a partial which I'm unsure I would succeed in.

Thanks for any help!

Remember that when you apply your full weight, the rope may stretch slightly, so you'll need to take this into account. As long as your feet don't touch the ground, it's full suspension.

Always test that your anchor point and rope are strong and can support your full weight.

In partial hanging, the more of your weight you can apply, the better. The best positions would be standing/ with your body sitting in the air with your legs forward/ kneeling.

📌 Calculation of tension exerted on a ligature in incomplete/partial hanging (good material for choosing the most suitable position)

📌 Partial hanging aftermath videos (with many body positions and places)

If your anchorpoint is something like a horizontal bar, like a pull up bar, full suspension would work. You only have to tie the ligature very tight around the neck and this horizontal bar, as if it is a tourniquet with the stick to twist, but you dont twist it, you hang from this stick. If you would use a noose, you would drop about 20 cm, because the circumference of your neck will be reduced about this lenghts when the noose tightens. The elongation of the rope is normally negligible.

Thank you for this and your response. I will look into the links! Thank you!

Thank you. It would be from the top of this radiator bar. It's the highest point in my house that would hold weight and about a foot higher than me. Could be fiddly, do you think it would be suitable? Thinking I might have more success if I can get my feet off the ground than if I try partial. Thanks for any help, input.

If it is well secured to the wall and there is no chance of it coming apart or breaking, it might work.

Have you tested it by hanging with your hands and applying all your weight, does it feel firm and strong?

The problem with a low height is that you could end up doing partial hanging instead of full hanging. If the rope stretches a little by your full weight suspended + the ligature knot tightening and compressing the neck, you'll end up lower than planned and could touch the ground with your feet.

Maybe it would be good to look for some higher place for full suspension.

Partial hanging in standing position is also an alternative. I leave these two example videos for informational purposes:

hi. can u give me the source where i can find this information ? i only found that circumference is reduced by 3 to 5 cm in worst cases. If its 20 cm its like neck is turning to the size of the forearm. secondly, just because noose digs into neck doesnt mean the person will descent by the same length. Thirdly, if the neck circumference is reduced to such a level the person is already unconscious and body acts like a dead weight.

The source are some hanging videos including my own. The circumference of my neck is 44 cm and I dropped about 20 cm.

Thank you. its strongly on the wall with very little movement and believe it would hold my weight. I am waiting for my rope to arrive but think you are right that it's probably just not high enough and might end up being a partial hanging (which I don't think i will be successful at). It would be quite hard to get the knot so high and not drop too much if I only have a foot to play with. Might need to look outside the house which is unfortunate. I shall see. Thank you for your advice!

Ah thank you for this idea. I've just looked and the top of my door hinges are lower that the top of my vertical radiator (what I was looking to use). A good idea tho, thank you!
Apologies for another question - I've just watched the standing suicide video with the female. I can't work out how she managed it (which is why I wasn't looking at partial hanging as concerned I wont). I know the video quality is poor, I just can't seem to work out how she tied the knot and passed out from standing as didn't look like she was particularly pulling....🤔. Thanks for any help

You can see her standing on a small platform and then abruptly stepping off (the second attempt). The material used appears to be some kind of fabric. I can't tell which knot she used, but you can clearly see how the ligature closes tightly around her neck when she drops all her weight instantly.
She very quickly entered the phase of decerebrate/decorticate rigidity (indicating brain damage)

Ah thank you, yes I wondered if she was standing on a small platform - couldnt quite make it out. OK, this is helpful, thank you!

The reason she could do it and it happened so quickly is because there is a self-reinforcing effect. As you start losing consciousness, you start to lose muscle strength very quickly. This puts more pressure on the neck, which, in turn, makes you pass out even faster. Imagine going down on a downward slope that progressively steepens as it goes. Past a certain point, things will accelerate and you can't do anything about it – you'll slide down quickly. A similar thing happens here. Past a certain point, she is not in control anymore. She can't stand up, and the rest happens extremely quickly.

In the YouTube video, it's at about 8:54–8:55 when she passes the threshold by trying to gently lower herself or by leaning slightly forward. The next moment, she loses muscle strength in her legs, and it's over – she slid down the slope, metaphorically speaking. At this point, there was a lot of pressure on her neck, and it became certain that she was going to die.

Ironically, she could do this because she thought she could get out of it and stand up if she wanted. She was not attempting to die. I believe the reason people can't pass out by partial hanging is exactly because they know they're going to die, so SI prevents them from applying enough pressure to pass the 'threshold', so to speak. Passing out by partial hanging is equivalent to pulling a trigger, jumping off a building, or drinking a poison, and people are unable to do those things either.

How the hell is it possible that YouTube allows the syrian girl videos there and don't ban it??? Poor person she just wanted peace but was dumb enough to film herself and now many years later people still watch it and see her as a public attraction…..

Thank you, this is helpful info. Yes, this is one of the reasons I also feel i would not manage a partial hanging so was looking at a full suspension with no way out. Thank you
